I had the honor of hosting a manga horror workshop at the Stadtbibliothek Karlsruhe, and it was such a rewarding experience. Together, we dove into the unsettling world of Junji Ito and focused on drawing the iconic Balloon Head from his manga. 🎈
During the workshop, we explored the basics of head anatomy, practiced working with ink, and learned how powerful black and white spaces can be when creating horror imagery. We also talked about Junji Ito’s work, his approach to horror, and why his visuals are so effective at creeping under your skin. Watching everyone experiment with inking techniques and slowly bring their drawings to life was incredibly inspiring.
I’m very grateful for the opportunity to lead this workshop and share my love for manga horror with such an engaged group. I had a wonderful time, and I truly hope to host more workshops like this again in the future.
